Resident Centered Care

Like other quality care centers all over the globe, Shady Oaks is actively exploring new and innovative ways of providing quality of life to our seniors. The common sense approach at Shady Oaks Care Center is to provide a community where the elders choose to continue lives of meaning and purpose. The elders of Shady Oaks Care Center live comfortably in neighborhood settings supported by consistent, compassionate staff who know them as individuals, listen to their hopes and desires and understand their unique needs.

Quality of life truly results from a commitment to resident centered care where individuals experience dignity of choice and respect in their daily lives.

A life led without choice is not truly living. At Shady Oaks, Resident Centered Care Planning empowers elders to make choices in their daily lives. Often the decisions of what time the get up in the morning, what and when to eat, when and how often to bathe, and what activities are available to participate in are not placed in the hands of the elders. In a traditional long-term care setting these decisions are left to the management and driven by the schedule. At Shady Oaks we believe in placing person above task and understand that true happiness lies in self-determination. That is why every effort is made to get to know our residents on a personal level, providing them with the tools needed to make sound, healthy decisions.

We have all heard it said that you can’t please all the people all the time. This phrase is never truer than when we try to plan a meal for nearly 100 individuals with differing likes and dislikes. At Shady Oaks, our solution was to offer a full buffet at every meal and to stretch out our meal times to accommodate a wide range of individual schedules. Mealtimes at Shady Oaks certainly offer something to please even the most finicky eater.

Through our focus on providing a meaningful activity program, we have taken the philosophy of Resident Centered Care to new heights. Shady Oaks’ elders are encouraged to participate in, as well as plan, many of our daily activities. Fun filled days spent shopping, or visiting a casino, attending a showing at a local movie theater, fishing at an area body of water, bowling at the bowling alley or visiting museums and parks are all direct results of our commitment to offering resident driven activity planning.

Through living and laughing together at Shady Oaks, we welcome a continuation of the satisfying, independent years our elders have long led. Lives which are complete with all the memorable moments and meaningful social occasions which comprise a healthy and dignified existence as a vital and integral part of a larger caring community.
