Residents and Staff Celebrate Valentine’s Day
Love was definitely in the air at Shady Oaks during the first two weeks of February. Red and pink valentine decorations adorned the rooms everywhere in the facility. Residents and staff spent time decorating special valentine sacks which were filled with valentines and candies for each resident and staff person. A favorite valentine activity called “Cupid, Draw Back Your Bow” was held in the afternoon on February 11th. The game consisted of red and pink balloons pinned to a cork bulletin board. After a resident or staff member threw darts to pop a balloon he or she received a valentine trivia question. Everyone was a winner, receiving a sweet prize after answering. It was a lot of fun popping the balloons and succeeding at the trivia challenge! On Valentine’s Day special meals were served to celebrate. At the noon luncheon residents and staff, as well as spouses and other loved ones, enjoyed a delicious meal of roast beef or chicken breast, rice with cheese sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, seven layer salad, and three different decadent desserts! In the afternoon of the 14th two Cupids visited each room delivering the valentine bags to residents and staff and wishing everyone a happy Valentine’s Day with their sparkly wands. A sincere thanks goes out to all of the volunteers and staff members who made this holiday truly a special, lovely time for all of our residents.
